DIRECTIONS TO WANGARATTA

Wangaratta is wonderfully accessible. The city itself is has approximately 20,000 residents and serves as the catchment area for more than 45,000 people. A terrific range of accommodation options exist, of which more details can be found on the accommodation page.

From Melbourne
  • Make your way to the Metropolitan Ring Road either from the West via Tullamarine Freeway / Western Ring Road, or from the East via Greensborough bypass direction.
  • Exit the Metropolitan Ring Road at the Craigieburn Bypass (Hume Freeway) and follow the freeway until the first “Wangaratta” exit.
  • That section is 216km and takes spot on 2 hours. There’s rarely any traffic in this section.
  • When you exit the freeway, drive 7km straight into the city.
From Sydney
  • Make your way to Campbelltown and the start of the non-toll section of the Hume Freeway.
  • Use the Hume Motorway (M5) from the city direction if you don’t mind the tolls or the M7 from the West.
  • Follow the Hume Freeway until the first “Wangaratta” exit. From Campbelltown that is less than 5:30. The city itself is about 8km along the main road after you exit the freeway.
From Adelaide
  • Make your way to the start of the South Eastern Freeway (M1).
  • Follow it and the Princes highway until Tailem Bend.
  • Hop on to the B12 and follow it through Pinaroo, Ouyen and on to Swan Hill (turning right onto the B400 at Piangil).
  • Follow the B400 through Kerang and Echuca and approx 40km after Echuca turn right onto the C355 and head for Shepparton (via Mooroopna).
  • Leave Shepparton on the A300 (Midland highway) and drive to Benalla.
  • Exit Benalla onto the Hume Freeway and head North to the first Wangaratta exit (30km of Hume Freeway).
  • When you exit the freeway, drive 7km straight into the city.
  • From the start of the South Eastern Freeway (M1) at the Adelaide end it is a 9 hour drive to be in the city of Wangaratta (plus stop time).

 

Brisbane, Perth and elsewhere
  • Fly to Melbourne. Catch a train to Wangaratta on the Friday (see below). There is no train from Tullamarine airport to Southern Cross train station, but a shuttle bus leaves the airport terminal every 15 minutes.
Trains from Melbourne
  • Trains depart Southern Cross station EVERY day at 7:10am and 6:01pm for arrival Wangaratta 9:55am and 9:01pm. Call us and we will arrange free transport from the station to your accommodation in Wangaratta.
